The Acting Headteacher, Alan Simons, is our SENCO and he monitors the special educational needs of all our children. We implement the SEN Code of Practice (Part 4 – 1996 Education Act). The Code emphasizes the importance of involving children and parents in education and of effective multi-professional working to meet the needs of the child.
Alan completed his Bachelor of Education in Canada and then moved to England in 1984 where he worked as an OT Assistant at a private hospital before taking up a teaching post in a mainstream primary school. Since then he has worked in mainstream and special schools, for children and young people with moderate learning difficulties, complex needs, autism and asperger syndrome and behavioural, emotional and social needs. Alan has worked across many settings including outreach services for autism, primary and secondary settings, and university . Alan completed his Masters degree in special educational needs at Brunel University and has completed his NPQH.
