At Frederick Hugh House we provide an individualised curriculum, adapted to fit your child’s needs. Through careful assessment, we develop and match the curriculum to your child. Our staff team comprises a range of professionals: Teachers, Learning Support Assistants, Speech & Language, Physio and Occupational Therapists. We integrate these therapies within the curriculum and throughout the school day.
It is our practice to differentiate between children’s needs so that they may access the curriculum individually whilst working in group and classroom settings. In turn, our curriculum is tailored to entail sensory, behavioural, language, physical, cognitive and occupational skills. Lessons are multi-sensory with tactile materials, visuals, songs and hands on activities in order to meet the needs of all children whatever their learning style. The school provides an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each child which is reviewed by the school team and parents every half term. The IEP sets out the nature of the child’s special educational needs and outlines how the school will aim to address these requirements, along with targets for improvement.
Frederick Hugh House’s curriculum includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum but also a range of intra-curricular activities organised in order to enrich the experience of the children. We are proud of the breadth of our curriculum, with a wide range of subjects and activities all taught on a weekly basis. Alongside the structured curriculum, we incorporate the teaching of basic life, social and self-care skills so as to add a level of functionality to the teaching and learning process.
We track progress through a range a formative assessment tools and use the 'B-squared' assessment tracker in conjunction with the connecting steps online tracking tool to continually record and monitor progress. Our schemes of work follow the 'Equals' framework and incorpaorate differentiated learning objectives, activities and experiences. This allows us to tailor the curriculum we deliver to the individual learners' needs.
